In Pyrgos village beats the heart of Marble Art and here is where you can live an authentic marble-carving experience in Tinos. In this tour, you will visit the studio of one of the best sculptors of the young generations, who, following his family’s long artistic tradition, he studied at the local school of fine arts in Pyrgos and he is an active member of this historic community, carrying on, along with a number of other artists, the great art of Marble Sculpture.

Since he was a child, he can remember the sound coming out from Pyrgos workshops with the sculptors carving pieces of marble all day long. Working on the Marble for more than 20 years now, Petros Marmarinos -his name means “Stone” and his surname “from Marble” by the way!- has a unique way to transform the marble into unique creations featured in international exhibitions and the Press.

In this tour, you will have the chance to get acquainted with the process of marble carving and to learn more about the famous green marble found on Tinos, the local tradition of the Art of Marble, as well as its modern uses and techniques.

After the tour in his workshop, you will have the chance to experience a hands-on family activity on the marble carving worktable. The kids will design and draw the shape on a raw piece of marble and the grown-ups will have the opportunity to hear the unique sound of marble carving and to create their piece of art to take back home as a souvenir from the island of Tinos and the village of Pyrgos.

This private family activity in Tinos Island is ideal for families with children over 6 years old. It operates throughout the year depending on weather conditions and it cannot be booked independently, but as part of a multi-day tailormade trip in the Greek Islands.
