Explore the Nemouta Waterfalls
Kid Friendly Hiking to the Stunning Waterfalls Near Olympia
In the boundaries between Arcadia and Elis, near the mountain Erymanthos and the Foloi oak forest, you will find the Nemouta Waterfalls in the Erymanthos river. Full of Greek mythology and home of Centaurs and fairies, the forest’s name derives from the Centaur’s king, Folos, or Pholus, who hosted Hercules when he was searching for the Erymanthian boar.
Mount Erymanthos is very attractive to friends of hiking and mountaineering by its wild natural environment with coniferous forests, dense vegetation, rare and wild species, excellent views, scattered springs and waterfalls. They are 30 in total -15 to 25 meters high- but only 8 of them are easily accessible, while the rest need some trekking skills.
The path is safe and passes through a variant nature that keeps up the whole family’s interest from the beginning to the end. If you travel with kids, it is suggested that you take a guided tour to the three of them, including transfer from the village of Nemouta and back. The driver will pick you up from the square of the village and in 30 minutes (through a dirt road), you will arrive to the starting point of the path that leads to the first and the most impressive of all, often called “Gate to Paradise”. The second and the third are in walking distance from the main dirt road.
