Hiking Katafiki Gorge

Privately Guided Hiking Tour

While you enjoy your vacation with kids and teens in Porto Heli, Ermioni or Nafplio, experience an off-the beaten track hiking tour to Katafiki gorge, that is 5 km from Ermioni, Argolis. It is perceived to be the “Gates to Hades” and the entrance to the Underworld, from which Hercules extracted Cerberus and Plouto abducted Persefoni. According to a local legend, the gorge is connected underground with Frahthi cave.

The gorge’s dense vegetation and water create a mythical atmosphere while hiking. Keep your eyes open to trace the rare species of the local orchid. At the entrance of the gorge, you will meet the byzantine chapel of Saint Nicholas that celebrates on the 9th of May.

Hiking Katafyki is suitable for all ages, because the path is accessible and only 2 and a half km long. The route starts from the main entrance of the rocky Katafiki gorge and continues with an uphill direction for approximately 3 kilometers through pine trees. Then the downhill trek begins until we reach the small church of St. Anargiri for small stop and picnic. Afterwards we follow a 3 kilometers path which leads us at the main square of the traditional Fourni village to optionally enjoy a homemade lemonade.
