Pasta-Making and Olive Oil Tasting in Navarino

Private Greek Cooking Class and Tasting

Next to the beautiful landscape and the unique ecosystem of the Gialova lagoon, Pylos and the Gulf of Navarino, while in Messenia with kids, you cannot miss the opportunity for an authentic cooking and tasting to discover the flavors of the extra virgin Kalamata olive oil and to learn how to make hilopites, a traditional meal that children love.

This private hands-on activity for families with kids of all ages is ideal after a day at the Voidokilia beach or a hiking or sea kayaking excursion in the Gulf of Navarino and Pylos. After having absorbed the beauty of nature, join our proposed expert team for an olive oil tasting session and a pasta making workshop, during which a traditional Greek “mum” will show you how to make Greek hilopites (egg pasta) and she’ll tell you stories about how, they used to make hilopites in the older days, only during summer, to make them last all through the winter months.

Once the pasta is prepared, you’ll get to cook it on the spot and enjoy it hot. It just takes 5 minutes to cook and will be served with local myzithra cheese and olive oil. And what’s more, you’ll take the recipe with you, to make your own hilopites all-year round!

Then, visit a local delicatessen right next door, where you can buy traditional local products from Messenia and the Peloponnese, local delicacies, cosmetics and handmade art. Last but not least, visit the Folklore Museum, just minutes away from the area where the workshops are hosted. The Museum aims to preserve and promote the cultural character of the small village and the wider area of Pylos.
